Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has announced several major infrastructure and governance initiatives during the State Legislature’s winter session.
The centrepiece is the Jankalyan Expressway, a 450-km access-controlled corridor connecting Mumbai and Hyderabad via Kalyan and Latur, at an estimated cost of Rs 36,000 crore. The expressway will reduce the Mumbai–Hyderabad distance from over 700 km to about 530 km, cutting travel time significantly, including Mumbai–Latur travel to around four-and-a-half hours. The project will pass through Thane, Pune, Ahilyanagar, Beed, and Latur districts, improving connectivity with Badlapur through Atal Setu and a proposed tunnel.
CM Fadnavis also announced a major expansion of Mumbai’s Metro network from 91 km to 132 km in the next two years, adding at least 50 km of operational corridors annually. Annual reductions in domestic electricity tariffs and the creation of a new business district in Nagpur were also highlighted. “The government is focused on accelerating connectivity, improving urban mobility, strengthening law enforcement and easing the cost burden on citizens,” he said.
