The Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, and the Union Minister of Road Transport & Highways, Nitin Gadkari, inaugurated the Bhandewadi sewage water treatment-cum-reuse project, on 18 December, 2016.
The sewage treatment project costing Rs 195 crore was undertaken by Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) and was jointly financed by JNNURM and MAHAGENCO.
The project proposes to save 130 MLD of pure water and will reduce pollution of the Wainganga river and increase availability of drinking water to urban centres.
The treated water will meet the requirements of the new super critical thermal power project at Koradi.
NMC will get an amount of Rs 15 crore annually by supplying water to Maharashtra State Power Generation Corporation (MAHAGENCO).
The NMC model will be implemented at other power projects and municipal corporations in Maharashtra.
