The Maharashtra Cabinet has approved the allotment of a 3.6-acre prime land plot in Ulwe, Navi Mumbai, to the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) for the construction of a Sri Padmavathi Ammavari Temple.
The land will be provided at a token rate of Rs one per sq. mtrs. with all associated charges waived. This decision, made during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, follows a previous precedent in which land was similarly allocated for a Tirupati temple in Navi Mumbai. The plot is located in Sector 12 of Ulwe, an area rapidly developing due to proximity to the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport and the Mumbai Trans-Harbour Link. The temple is intended to serve devotees from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), allowing easier access to worship without travelling to Andhra Pradesh.
The TTD will bear all construction and maintenance costs, with the project expected to boost local economic activity and religious tourism.
