At the NAREDCO NextGen Conclave 2025 in Mumbai, Maharashtra's Transport Minister, Pratap Sarnaik, announced a fast-tracked development plan for the MSRTC's bus depots across district, taluka, and rural areas. The government will soon issue 150 to 160 tenders for this initiative. The MSRTC holds around 3,360 acres of land, which will be utilised for the project.

Architect Hafeez Contractor has been appointed to create a development plan. The Minister stressed the importance of developing these strategically located landbanks and encouraged developers to explore both commercial and residential opportunities. He added, “MSRTC will be made a planning authority and it will sanction the plans under one roof. For the same, MSRTC’s technical team capacities will be built.” He also urged developers to extend their focus beyond urban areas and invest in rural development, including regions like Lonavala, Khandala, and Mahabaleshwar.

He further noted that new DCPR rules would facilitate development by increasing FSI and that the land lease period would be extended from 60 to 99 years.
