Mahindra & Mahindra has planned to make an investment of Rs 18,000 crore in the next three years as against the previous plan of investing Rs 15,000 crore over a three year period.
The investment will go into capacity expansion, product portfolio expansion for both farm and automotive and also for new investment opportunities. The company will invest in Phase-II development of its facility at Chakan, Pune in Maharashtra.
The work is currently underway, and will call for an investment of around Rs 4,000 crore to Rs 5,000 crore. In 2019, the company is focusing on automotive division for smooth transition to BS VI. However, by FY21 the company will set off its product action plans.
The new C segment SUV – W601 will be manufactured out of the Chakan plant and Ford variant of the same platform too will be manufactured there. The company is also adding a new press line, a new paint factory which can cater to a volume of three lakh units and a trim chassis final line too at Chakan.
The investment in new product development on tractors in the next three years is more than the cumulative investment the company made in tractors products over the last five years.
On the tractor side, the company has capacity for Mahindra branded tractors; it is however operating full capacity for Swaraj and the company is close to deciding on the new manufacturing line. The company is currently contemplating if the next line will come up at the existing facility or in a new location.
