A significant hurdle in the construction of Kolkata Metro’s Purple Line (Joka-Park Street) has been resolved with the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Rail Vikas Nigam (RVNL) and the Consulate General of Nepal.
The MoU facilitates the exchange of land parcels - 409.53 sq. mtrs. from the Nepal Consulate for 526.34 sq. mtrs. of Metro Railway land. This agreement is crucial for the construction of a ramp between Mominpur and Kidderpore for the underground section of the Metro.
Several discussions took place between Indian and Nepalese authorities from 2022 to 2025 to finalise the land exchange. "After multiple rounds of discussions, the Nepal government concurred to exchange this parcel of land," said an official involved in the project.
