The Union Cabinet has approved two new railway lines in Kutch region in Gujarat, which includes 81.77 km Desalpar-Hajipir-Luna, and the 62.69 km Vayor-Lakhpat lines.
Along with the 24.65 km Bhuj-Naliya line extension to Vayor and the 24.88 km Naliya-Jakhau Port line, these projects will add 194 km of rail track at an estimated cost of Rs 3,375 crore. The new lines are designed to enhance transportation of Kutch’s valuable limestone and bentonite clay, which dominate India’s production.
The Bhuj-Naliya extension will improve logistics for cement industries, reducing road congestion. The Naliya-Jakhau Port line, costing Rs 410.46 crore, will link Jakhau Port to the national railway network, easing cargo movement and alleviating congestion at other major ports. The line’s proximity to the India-Pakistan border and Naliya Air Force station adds to its strategic significance.
