Maruti Suzuki India and Suzuki Motor Corporation have announced plans to establish the Osamu Suzuki Centre of Excellence (OSCOE) in India as a tribute to the late Osamu Suzuki, former Chairman of Suzuki Motor Corporation, who passed away in 2024 in Japan. The announcement was made during a remembrance event held at Yashobhoomi, Delhi, on 23 April, 2025.
The OSCOE will be located in Gujarat and Haryana and is designed to support the growth of high-quality manufacturing in India. According to the official press release, the centre is being set up “to Suzuki’s contribution towards nation-building and for wide propagation of his manufacturing philosophy that led to Maruti Suzuki’s success in India.”
Osamu Suzuki played a transformative role in the Indian automotive landscape by introducing Japanese manufacturing practices that significantly elevated production standards. The new centre will work toward propagating these principles further by raising the quality standards of component manufacturers and strengthening the country’s supply chains to meet global benchmarks.
The OSCOE is envisioned as more than just a manufacturing initiative. It aims to build infrastructure and launch collaborative programmes with academia and industry stakeholders. These programmes will include formal teaching modules, lectures, discussions, and seminars centered around the Japanese approach to manufacturing excellence.
