On 05 February, 2026, Mawkyrwat MLA Renikton L Tongkhar visited the Greater Mawkyrwat Combine Water Supply Scheme (GMCWSS), a major water project in the South West Khasi Hills district.
With an investment of Rs 59 crore under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), the scheme is 90 percent complete and aims to provide water to eight villages: Mawlangwir, Mawten, Mawkyrwat, Wahsiej, Sohkhyllam, Mawmerang, Nongeitser, and Hiland. Accompanied by Public Health Engineering (PHE) Executive Engineer K Nongbsaw and other officials, MLA Tongkhar inspected the water treatment plant at Mawten village, and urged contractors to finish the remaining work promptly. He also confirmed that the water source is sufficient to ensure a year-round supply for the villages.
Executive Engineer Nongbsaw added that the department is targeting completion by 2026, with further JJM funds expected soon.
