The Karnataka government has selected
a consortium of Maytas Infrastructure, Nagarjuna Construction Co and Vienna
International Airport to develop and operate
Gulbarga and
Shimoga airport.
To be developed on a
build-operate-transfer (BOT) model for 30 years, the airports will have one
runway each. The government is already in possession of the land (550 acre in
Gulbarga and 660 acre in Shimoga) required for the project. The consortium also
has the right to develop a star hotel, shopping malls and a flying school within
the project site.
The consortium has to pay around
Rs.2.2 crore to the state government to take over the land for the two proposed
airports.
