The Ministry of Urban Development, Uttar Pradesh has approved the Meerut Development Authority’s (MDA) plan to develop the first-of-its-kind 750-acre township at Partapur, from where the Delhi-Meerut rapid rail transit system will enter Meerut city.
The proposed township will support the development of infrastructure encompassing the rail corridor, facilitating the regional rapid transit system (RRTS) to be commercially sustainable, as well as enabling transit-oriented development (TOD), which is now a global standard in several developing countries worldwide.
The cost of land acquisition is estimated to be nearly Rs 2,000 crore, with the state government providing 50 percent as an interest-free long-term loan. The effort is being carried out by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC). The township will follow transit-oriented development and value capture finance principles.
The state government has allocated Rs 350 crore for the construction of the Delhi-Meerut RRTS. The project is scheduled to be completed by 2025, and the funds would be utilised to speed up the completion of outstanding tasks, particularly in the Ghaziabad and Meerut sections.
