The Ministry of Railways has approved the Rs 764 crore Ferozepur-Patti rail link project in Punjab, which aims to enhance regional mobility and logistics efficiency.
Announced by Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu on 12 November, 2025, the project, passed on October 27, will cover 25.72 km and connect the Malwa and Majha regions. This new rail line will reduce the distance between Ferozepur and Amritsar from 196 km to 100 km, while also shortening the Jammu-Ferozepur-Fazilka-Mumbai corridor by 236 km. The project will revive a historic route lost during partition and create a faster route to Gujarat seaports.
Additionally, it will provide strategic benefits for defence mobility and enhance socioeconomic conditions for nearly 10 lakh people, generating emplyment of over 2.5 lakh. It will also cater to 2,500-3,500 daily commuters, including students, employees, and patients from nearby villages.
