The first waste-to-energy plant will come up in Uttar Pradesh. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) in this regard was signed between NTPC and the Varanasi Municipal Corporation.
The project will see an investment of around Rs 300 crore which will be invested by NTPC while the Varanasi Municipal Corporation will provide land for the facility.
The authorities will be taking 30 months for completion of the plant. They will use the waste in different ways and produce a number of products like electricity, methane and civil constructional material too.
There is a separate wing of NTPC which deals with waste-to-energy concept and the units have installed such plants in cities like Surat and Delhi.
