Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi has inaugurated a 240 TPD biomass pellet plant in Rewari, Haryana, marking a key step in the state's clean energy transition.
The plant will convert agricultural residues like paddy straw and cotton stalks into biomass pellets for co-firing in thermal power plants. The initiative supports the Government of India's policy mandating biomass co-firing in coal-based power plants, with a five percent blend required nationally, and seven percent in the Delhi-NCR region.
Minister Joshi emphasized that this project aligns with India's broader renewable energy goals and will reduce carbon emissions while creating new livelihoods for rural communities. He also highlighted that half of the biomass used in NCR will come from local paddy residue, addressing stubble burning issues. "This plant represents a crucial step towards realizing PM Modi's vision of a sustainable, energy-secure future," he stated.
