Samvardhana Motherson International (SMIL) has announced that its subsidiary, Motherson Electronic Components (MECPL), has received approval under the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme through the Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS).
The approval, granted by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), will support the production of enclosures for the consumer electronics industry. MECPL is set to receive incentives for six financial years, from FY 2026 to FY 2031. MECPL plans to invest Rs 1,900 crore during this period at its facility in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu, which is expected to generate over 5,000 new work opportunities.
This move aligns with Motherson's broader strategy to enhance its domestic manufacturing capabilities, especially in the consumer electronics sector. Motherson, a global leader in design, engineering, and manufacturing, aims to strengthen India's manufacturing capacity and reduce import dependence through the PLI scheme.
