Mumbai Metro Line 9, a key addition serving the Thane district, is preparing to begin trial runs this week on the 4.97-km stretch from Dahisar to Mira Road.

The upcoming trials follow the successful energisation of overhead traction wires on 10 May, 2025, clearing the way for dynamic testing between Dahisar and Kashigaon. These trials will involve crucial checks on train movement, signalling, communication, and safety systems, marking the final phase before the line is commissioned for public use.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is expected to officially flag off the first test run. Metro Line 9, an extension of the Red Line 7, is designed to provide a direct corridor from Andheri (Western Express Highway) to Bhayandar (West). This project is set to ease congestion along the Western Railway line and significantly enhance connectivity in the western suburbs. The initial phase will see operational stations at Dahisar, Pandurang Wadi, Miragaon, and Kashigaon, while the subsequent phase will extend the route to the Subhash Chandra Bose Stadium in Bhayandar (West).

A key highlight of the corridor is Kashimira station, which lies just 1.4 km from the Mira Road suburban railway station, improving last-mile connectivity for daily commuters.
