Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated the trial run of Metro Line 4A connecting Thane and Mumbai on 22 September, 2025, announcing the full line’s completion by the end of 2026 and operation from 2027.
The 58 km Metro Line 4 will serve 21 lakh commuters daily, with Metro 4A alone expected to carry 13 lakh passengers. The 10.5 km first phase, running between Cadbury Junction and Gaimukh in Thane, is slated to open by December 2025. The line includes 32 stations, and Metro 4A trains will have six coaches stopping at key points such as Majiwada and Kasarvadavali.
Deputy CM Eknath Shinde called the launch historic, marking the first metro in Thane after 172 years of railway service. The government also approved Metro loops to improve connectivity across Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), linking areas like Kalyan-Dombivali and Wadala-CST, enhancing last-mile connectivity for commuters.
