The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has approved a range of key civic, energy, and cultural projects to support its Smart City goals and align with the vision of "Viksit Bharat@2047." In a recent council meeting, NDMC cleared multiple high-impact initiatives aimed at enhancing sustainability, utility services, flood preparedness, and public amenities.
Among the major approvals is the procurement of 120 MW renewable energy from NHPC at Rs 4.62 per unit (including trading margin) for 25 years, a step toward green energy transition. Over Rs 40 crore has been sanctioned to upgrade electricity and water metering systems, including Rs 30.84 crore for over 15,000 smart water meters and Rs 4.56 crore for smart electricity meters, enabling better monitoring and citizen empowerment through real-time usage data.
For flood control, Rs 70.44 crore has beem allocated for desilting Sunehari nullah near Lodhi Road, while Rs 5.20 crore is earmarked for drainage maintenance machinery. Additionally, Rs 4.18 crore is for mobile comfort stations during public events. Culturally, NDMC will dedicate one percent of its annual budget to arts via its Urban Arts and Culture Forum, promoting heritage and community engagement. Welfare measures for employees were also approved.
