Nuclear Power Corporation of India has
proposed a diversification in the hydropower sector. The nuclear power
generation monolith will set up hydropower plants in the 200-400 MW range, in
association with National Hydroelectric Power Corporation and two other entities
--- Uttaranchal Jal Vidyut Nigam and Tehri Hydro Development Corporation.
NPCIL's diversification will not
entitle budgetary support. All the hydropower projects will be financed through
NPCIL's internal accruals and reserves. Meanwhile, NPCIL will commission a 10
MW wind energy project (details unavailable) by end-October 2006, it is learnt.
By 2008, the company will have around 50 MW of wind capacity.
