The Network Planning Group (NPG), under PM Gati Shakti, has evaluated seven key infrastructure projects in railways, roads, logistics, and textiles to boost connectivity and freight efficiency.
The Ministry of Railways proposed three major rail expansions: the construction of third and fourth lines between Bakhtiyarpur and Fatuha in Bihar (24.156 km), part of a 390 km multi-tracking plan to ease congestion and aid industries like cement, power, textiles, agriculture, and tourism; a fourth line between Tambaram and Chengalpattu in Tamil Nadu (30.021 km) to manage rising passenger and freight demand, reducing logistics costs; and a fourth line between Dongargarh (Chhattisgarh) and Gondia (Maharashtra) spanning 84.10 km to streamline bulk freight in the Energy Corridor and decongest Gondia Junction.
NPG advised including station upgrades, better accessibility, and improved passenger amenities in all rail projects. The review also covered a road project — widening 54.2 km of NH-39 from Rewa through Churhat Tunnel to Sidhi in Madhya Pradesh, enhancing freight movement for cement and coal. Additionally, a logistics park initiative was discussed to strengthen last-mile connectivity and deliver socio-economic benefits.
