On 3 February 2014, Oommen Chandy, Chief Minister of Kerala, inaugurated the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation's (KSRTC) central bus terminal complex located at Thampanoor, in Thiruvananthapuram district of the state.
The 12 storied central bus terminal building, implemented by Kerala Transport Development Finance Corporation (KTDFC), was developed at a cost of Rs 65 crore.
The total cost of the project is Rs 240 crore including the cost of the land and construction.
The newly inaugurated bus station will have the facility for 25 buses to start simultaneously from the bus terminal.
Besides, there will be facility for rainwater harvesting, which will have a capacity of about 3.75 lakh ltr of water.
Other facilities such as waiting room, modern toilets, police aid posts, and security cameras will also be arranged, taking into consideration the security and comfort of women.
Work on Enchakkal bus station project will begin as soon as the paperwork for the project gets over and it receives the required clearances.
Apart from this, KSRTC is also planning to launch a parcel and courier service.
