The Union Minister for Road Transport, Highways
and Shipping, announced a slew of new road projects involving an investment of
Rs.2,544 crore which include widening of some stretches to four and six lanes.
The projects being taken up include:
- The Kundapur-Suratkal on NH-17
- The Hassan-Nilamangalore on NH-13
- The Krishnarajapuram-Kolar on NH-4 and
- The Bangalore-Hosur on NH-4
The feasibility study for these projects would
begin soon. The detailed project reports for the widening of the highways is
expected to be ready by the end of fiscal. After all the necessary studies and
reports, work on the projects is expected to begin on 2 April 2004.
Meanwhile the Golden Quadrilateral and the
North-South corridor highway projects in Karnataka would be completed on
schedule. So far, of the 755 Km stretch identified for widening into four lanes
as part of the Golden Quadrilateral or the North-South corridor, around
277 Km had already been completed. Work on the 380 Km was under implementation
and work on another 98 Km had not been awarded due to land acquisition problems.
