Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC) is expected to sign a
bilateral agreement with the GAIL for cooperation in developing gas-based
infrastructure in the state.
An MoU is likely to be signed between KSIDC and GAIL on 14 September 2009 for
promoting a gas pipeline project for the supply of regassified liquefied natural
gas from the Petronet LNG terminal at Kochi and city gas distribution project
using natural gas.
The agreement envisages executing two gas pipelines in the
Kochi-Kanjirakode-Mangalore /Bangalore sector and a sub-sea gas pipeline
from
Kochi to Kayamkulam.
GAIL Board has accorded approval for laying of the 1,114 km Kochi-Kanjirkkod-Mangalore-Bangalore
pipeline at an estimated investment of Rs 3,032 crore. The design capacity of
this pipeline is 16 mmscmd and the project will be implemented in two phases.
In Phase I, 96 km pipeline is to be laid from Kochi to Alwaye with spur lines
/ feeder lines to Alwaye, Udyogmandal, Binannipuram, Ambalamedu at an estimated
investment of Rs 267.50 crore. Phase I is scheduled to be completed by 2011-12.
The infrastructure will be connected to PLL Kochi which is to be gas source for
the markets in the region.
In Phase II, 1,018 km pipeline will be laid from Alwaye to Kanjirrkkod,
Kanjirrkkod to Mangalore and Kanjirkkod to Palghat / Palakkad with spurlines/feeder
lines to Thrissur, Kottakal, Kozhikode, Kannur, Mangalore and Palakkad. Phase
II will involve laying of pipeline from Palakkad to Bangalore with spurlines/feeder
lines to Coimbatore and Salem. It will involve at an estimated investment of Rs.
2764.50 crore is scheduled to be completed by 2012-13.
GAIL will also be laying 1,389 km
Dabhol - Bangalore pipeline at an investment of Rs 4,543.43 crore. The
design capacity of the 30 inch diameter Dabhol - Bangalore section is 16 mmscmd
and the project is likely to be implemented in two phases which will be
connected to the Koch-Kanjirkkod-Bangalore pipeline.
It also proposes the establishment of a city gas distribution project in the
Greater Kochi area for the supply of natural gas for domiciles; automobile
compressed natural gas (CNG) stations; and commercial customers as well as for
small-scale industrial consumers in the region.
