Indian Hotels Company Ltd (IHCL), promoted by the Tata Group is likely to
ramp up its presence in its mid-segment premium brand 'The Gateway Hotel' chain
by 2015.
IHCL is planning to add 30 more hotels to its existing chain of 20 Gateway
Hotels across India. It is likely to open 13 hotels by 2012 and the remaining 17
by 2015. These hotels are likely to be launched in tier II and other small
cities in India. Jalandhar (Punjab), Mysore (Karnataka), Navi Mumbai,
Gondia and
Pune in Maharashtra,
Raipur in Chhattisgarh, and
Kolkata are likely to be the next destinations for the upcoming
hotels. However, the final locations of these hotels have not been disclosed.
The new hotels are expected to be run on the management contract model in
which private developers are likely to invest and build hotels on Gateway's
prototype and brand. Later, IHCL is expected to purchase the same from them.
Currently, Gateway hotels are present in Agra and Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh,
Bangalore, Chikmagalur and Mangalore in Karnataka, Calicut and Coonoor in
Kerala, Jaipur, Jaisalmer and Jodhpur in Rajasthan, Madurai in Tamil Nadu, Nasik
in Maharashtra, Sasan Gir, Surat and Vadodara in Gujarat, Vijayawada and
Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. Two more are likely to come up at
Chennai and New Delhi in June 2010.
