The foundation stone for NTPC's 4,000 (800x5) MW thermal plant at Kudigi near
Basavana Bagewadi in Bijapur district of Karnataka is to be laid in January
2010.
The project expected to cost Rs 20,000 crore will be taken up in two stages.
In Stage I, three units with a capacity of 800 MW each is likely to be set up
while the remaining two units to come up in Stage II.
The land is likely to be acquired by the Karnataka Industrial Area
Development Board (KIADB), and the acquisition process is likely to be completed
in five months.
Meanwhile, the state government has issued orders for the supply of four tmc
water from the Almatti reservoir for the project. According to sources, railway
lines are to be laid from Murmugoa Port to Kudigi to transport coal.
