NTPC which plans to set up Stage-I 2,400 MW thermal based power plant at
Kudigi in Karnataka has requested for long-term coal linkage for the project
from the Coal Ministry.
NTPC and the Karnataka Government has signed an MoU in January 2009 for
developing this power plant. The coal required for the project to generate 90
per cent of the power capacity has been estimated at 13 million tpa. The
project, being located beyond 1,000 km from the expected source of fuel supply,
will require washed coal having an ash percentage not exceeding 34 per cent as
per MoEF guidelines.
