National Aluminium Company (NALCO) has chalked out an expansion plan worth Rs
50,000 crore to be implemented in the next 8 to 9 years in India as well as
overseas.
NALCO plans to increase aluminium capacity from the present 4.6 to 5.75 lakh
tonne, alumina refinery from 21 to 29 lakh tonne and de-bottlenecking of alumina
from 21 to 22.7 lakh tonne.
Further, the company plans to set up a Rs 16,000 crore greenfield project at
Jharsuguda in Orissa and a Rs 5,600 crore alumina refinery at Visakhapatnam in
Andhra Pradesh.
This apart, plans are afoot to set up a smelter in Kalimantan in Indonesia.
In 2008, NALCO had inked an agreement with the Indonesia Government for setting
up a 0.5 million tonne aluminium smelter and a 1,250 MW captive power unit at an
investment of about Rs 17,000 crore.
