Afcons Infrastructure, a subsidiary of the Shapoorji Pallonji Group, bagged
an order worth Rs 938 crore from Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation (KMRC) to
construct the final underground portion that is to be bored under the Hooghly
River.
Recently, KMRC awarded a contract to ITD Cementation to build the underground
section from Subhas Sarobar to Central Station. Subsequently, Afcons is to
construct the remainder of the line from Central Station to Howrah Maidan.
Afcons, in JV with a Russia's Transtonnelstroy, is expected to construct
three underground stations and twin bored tunnels. The length of the tunnel will
be about 2,954 mtrs, of which approximately 520 mtrs will be under the river.
