Nirani Sugars, one of India’s leading privately-owned sugar companies, has signed an MoU with the Karnataka government to establish a polylactic acid (PLA) manufacturing facility in Bagalkot, Karnataka. With a proposed investment of Rs 2,000 crore, the plant will be developed over three to five years, generating direct employment for 600-800 people.
The Karnataka government will assist the company with necessary approvals and incentives to ensure timely project completion. PLA is a biodegradable polymer derived from renewable resources, offering sustainable alternatives in packaging, textiles, automotive, and medical applications. This initiative supports the growing demand for eco-friendly products, including 3D printing filaments, compostable packaging, and biodegradable electronic casings.
Nirani Sugars operates nine advanced sugar production units across Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Bihar, producing premium sugar varieties and by-products for the agriculture and energy sectors. The company further aims to diversify into high-value products through forward integration.
