The North East Gas Grid (NEGG) has made significant progress with the commissioning of the 396-km Guwahati–Numaligarh section, now operational.
This section connects Numaligarh Refinery (NRL) to the grid, marking the first major industrial linkage. Developed by Indradhanush Gas Grid (IGGL), a joint venture of IOCL, ONGC, GAIL, OIL, and NRL, the NEGG aims to connect all eight North Eastern states with piped natural gas. The project, part of the Hydrocarbon Vision 2030, will feature a 1,688 km pipeline with a transport capacity of 4.75 mmscmd, targeting full commissioning by 31 March, 2026.
Once completed, it will connect Assam, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, Meghalaya, and Sikkim, enhancing gas accessibility for regional and national markets. "The project will deliver economic benefits by ensuring reliable gas access and reducing energy costs for households, businesses, and industries," said an official.
