The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has recorded a significant achievement in its electrification and green energy initiatives during January–July 2025, electrifying 1,043 route kilometres (RKM) of railway lines.
NFR’s Chief Public Relations Officer Kapinjal Kishore Sharma announced that the Rangiya Division is now fully electrified, enabling 100 percent eco-friendly train operations. Notably, the prestigious Rajdhani Express is now operating on electric traction via the Rangiya-Rangapara route up to Dibrugarh. Electrification has also been completed on critical double-line sections, including Chaparmukh–Hojai Down Line (45.69 TKM) and Dudhnai–Azara Second Line (99.32 TKM) in Assam, supporting ongoing doubling projects.
With this progress, the New Delhi–Dibrugarh Rajdhani Express has been running entirely on electric traction via New Tinsukia since June 2025, providing faster and cleaner services. The shift has led to tangible operational benefits, with 28 trains now running on full electric traction, reducing dependence on diesel and releasing 12 diesel locomotives from active service.
