Indian Railway has identified 33
railway stations for development as Model Stations under the Northeast
Frontier Railway (NEFR) during the 11th Five Year Plan.
Out of these 33 stations, 15 stations
fall in North Eastern sates including Assam. The stations which would be
developed in Assam are: Kokrajhar, Gosaingaonhat, Srirampur, Rangiya, Tezpur,
New Bongaigaon, Guwahati, Kamakhya, Silcahr, Lumding, Dibrugarh, New Tinsukia
and Jorhat, whereas from Nagaland and Tripura Dimapur and Dharmanagar
respectively will be developed as model stations.
Under the model station scheme,
further facilities are being planned to be provided at these stations as per
norms depending upon category of the stations. Retiring room, waiting room (with
bathing facilities), cloak room, enquiry counter, national train enquiry system
(NTES), inter voice response system (IVRS), computer based announcement,
refreshment room, among others, are some of the facilities that will be provided
under model station scheme in these stations.
