The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), has cleared the Nuclear Liability Clause for signing of an agreement between Nuclear Power Corporation of India (NPCIL), and America's Westinghouse.
The clause dilutes the Nuclear Liability Law by which NPCIL will have the right to recourse in case of a nuclear accident. The clause was cleared on the basis that the right to recourse in case of a nuclear accident, lies with India. But the Central Government has to maintain that India will not go back on the deal.
It allows NPCIL to change course in case of a mishap. It will also allow both to continue negotiations on the 6,600 MW plant in Gujarat.
Nuclear Power Corporation of India (NPCIL), is developing 6,000 MW Mithivirdi nuclear power project in Bhavnagar district of Gujarat.
