The Numaligarh Refinery (NRL) has signed pipeline right to use sharing agreement with GAIL (India).

Under the agreement, both the companies will share a common right to use for laying their respective pipelines for a stretch of 550 km from Purnia in Bihar to Guwahati in Assam.

GAIL is laying Barauni-Guwahati Pipeline (BGPL), which is a part of Jagdishpur-Haldia & Bokaro-Dhamra Natural Gas Pipeline Project, also known as ‘Pradhan Mantri Urja Ganga’ extended up to Guwahati to supply natural gas to pipelines under North East Gas Grid (NEGG).

NRL is also laying its 1,630 km long Paradip Numaligarh Crude Pipeline (PNCPL), originating from Paradip Port, traversing through Odisha, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar and Assam and terminating at its refinery at Numaligarh in Assam.

The pipeline project is part of an integrated refinery expansion project from three million tpa to nine million tpa which is currently under implementation at a project cost of over Rs 22,000 crore.

The company added both the pipelines share a common pipeline route from Purnia in Bihar to a place near Guwahati in Assam for around 550 km.

The sharing of the pipeline right to use will help in optimisation of land acquisition for the pipeline laying. Also, both the companies will be benefited in terms of resource sharing during execution and operation of the respective pipelines.
