Oil India (OIL) and Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPCL), both Maharatna PSUs, have signed a joint venture agreement (JVA) to establish a city gas distribution (CGD) network in Arunachal Pradesh.
The agreement was formalised at BPCL’s Corporate Office in the presence of Dr. Ranjit Rath, Chairman & MD of OIL, and Sanjay Khanna, Director (Refineries) and CMD (Additional Charge) of BPCL. The new joint venture company (JVC) will develop infrastructure for compressed natural gas (CNG) stations and provide piped natural gas (PNG) connections to domestic, commercial, and industrial users.
This initiative, awarded to the OIL-BPCL consortium under the 12th CGD Bid Round conducted by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB), is aimed at improving access to clean energy while supporting the vision of a gas-based economy. Dr. Rath highlighted that the project builds on OIL’s legacy in Arunachal Pradesh, reinforced by the successful commissioning of the Kumchai-Kusijan gas pipeline, and will contribute to socio-economic growth and sustainable energy access in the region.
