ONGC expects significant progress in enhancing oil production from its flagship Mumbai High (MH) field by October 2026, according to Chairman AK Singh.
Discovered in 1974 and producing since 1976, MH contributes about one-third of India’s cumulative oil output but has faced a steady decline. ONGC partnered with BP Exploration (Alpha) in April 2025 as Technical Services Provider (TSP) to address the issue. Chairman Singh remarked, “It’s been only 4 months. This partnership started in April. One thing you can say is that green shoots are good… Small wins will come in 7-8 months, but big wins will take around a year and half.”
A filing in January 2025 indicated a potential 60 per cent rise in output over 10 years. The Chairman noted, “Our recovery so far is only 30 per cent… it should be nothing below 45-50 per cent.”
