EIH, the flagship company of The Oberoi Group, has announced a management agreement for an Oberoi luxury resort at the historic Makaibari Tea Estate in Darjeeling.
The project marks a significant step in the Group's strategy to offer exceptional hospitality in extraordinary natural environments. Makaibari, one of the world’s oldest and most famous tea estates, was established in 1859 and is known for its stunning Himalayan views, lush forests, and rare biodiversity. The estate, which spans 1,236 acres, is also home to the world’s first certified organic tea plantation. The resort will feature 25 rooms, and is set to open in 2030.
Designed by Nava Design Studios and developed with Luxmi Tea Co., the resort will provide seclusion while offering easy access to Bagdogra International Airport, just 35 km away. The resort has been carefully designed with the possibility of adding more rooms in the future, ensuring any expansion is done thoughtfully and in harmony with the surrounding landscape. "The Oberoi, Makaibari Tea Estate, Darjeeling will offer an unparalleled experience rooted in heritage, tea culture, and the region’s breathtaking terrain," the company stated.
