Chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi on 10 August, 2025 inaugurated a 650-bed teaching hospital at Shaheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital in Koraput, built at a cost of Rs 280 crore, aimed at boosting healthcare in Odisha’s tribal hinterland.
The CM also announced the early construction of the six-lane Jeypore–Berhampur– Bhubaneswar economic corridor. The new facility will serve patients from Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, and nearby areas of Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, offering advanced services like CT scan, dialysis, mammography, and a dedicated oxygen plant. A separate cancer hospital is coming up adjacent to the complex with Rs 41.15 crore sanctioned.
CM Majhi highlighted that Ayushman Bharat–PMJAY and Gopabandhu Jan Arogya Yojana cover about 80 percent of Odisha’s population, including 3,00,547 beneficiaries in Koraput. Under Ayushman Bayobandana Yojana, 9,006 people have enrolled. He also noted Odisha’s network of over 29,000 empanelled hospitals and expansion to 12 government medical colleges, with new institutions planned.
