The Housing and Urban Development department of the Odisha government has signed an MoU for the much delayed solid waste plant project, which will come up at Bhuasuni, in Mayurbhanj district of the state.
The state government has signed the MoU with Essel Bhubaneswar MSW, a consortium of Essel Infraprojects and Rochem Separation Systems (India) for developing this plant, which will be set up with an investment of nearly Rs 200 crore.
The solid waste for the project will be collected from Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, which will be further processed to generate 11 MW energy. For transferring the waste, the company will develop garbage transfer stations at Gadakana and Ghatikia in Bhubaneswar, and Satichaura in Cuttack.
The plant will have a capacity to handle 600 tonne per day and is expected to be commissioned in two years.
In 2010, the state government had identified nearly 62 acre at Bhuasuni for the plant but due to some hurdles and protests from locals the project did not take off.
