The Dharavi Redevelopment Project (DRP) has released its first eligibility list, confirming that over 75 percent of tenement holders have qualified for new homes under the slum redevelopment initiative.
As per DRP data, all bona fide residents who settled in Dharavi before 01 January, 2000, are entitled to a 350 sq. ft. flat within Dharavi, provided they submit the required documentation. Residents who settled between 01 January, 2000, and 01 January, 2011, may receive 300 sq. ft. homes at alternative locations outside Dharavi.
Out of the total 505 tenements, 31 are yet to submit any documentation, while 137 cases are awaiting verification by the BMC, which is currently being followed up by the DRP. The remaining 38 tenements are identified as amenity structures. Of the remaining 299 tenements, 229 have been confirmed as eligible for new homes based on various criteria, and the remaining 70 are in the process of submitting additional documents to establish their eligibility.
CEO SVR Srinivas emphasised the project’s inclusiveness and confirmed that all commercial units—eligible or ineligible, would receive space within Dharavi. A proposal has also been submitted to accommodate ineligible commercial establishments on a rental basis.
