On 26 July, 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new international exhibition-cum-convention centre (IECC) ‘Bharat Mandapam’ at the revamped Pragati Maidan complex in Delhi.
The new centre, spanning over 53,399 sq. mtrs., has been developed at an estimated cost of Rs 2,700 crore. Overall, it has the capacity to seat 7,000 people in its multi-purpose and plenary halls combined, along with an amphitheatre with a 3,000-seating capacity.
The IECC, which is set to be the largest conference and exhibition site in India, will also be the venue of the G-20 Summit in September, 2023.
The elliptical-shaped building, inspired by the conch shell, and its walls and facades have several elements of traditional art. The project has been designed by the international firm Aedas.
