Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on 18 January, 2026 laid the foundation stone for the Kaziranga Elevated Corridor Project in Kaliabor, Nagaon district, with an estimated investment of over Rs 6,950 crore.
The 86-km-long project will expand the Kaliabor-Numaligarh section of National Highway 715, enhancing regional connectivity and addressing key infrastructure needs. A notable feature is the 35 km Elevated Wildlife Corridor that passes through Kaziranga National Park, ensuring minimal disruption to the park’s biodiversity. The project also includes a 21 km bypass section and the widening of a 30 km highway stretch from two to four lanes. It aims to improve access to Upper Assam, including Dibrugarh and Tinsukia, while reducing human-wildlife conflict.
The elevated structure will enhance road safety, minimize accidents, and facilitate smoother passenger and freight traffic. Additionally, bypasses at Jakhalabandha and Bokakhat will ease congestion and improve urban mobility. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma highlighted the public enthusiasm for the initiative.
