The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is set to advance the development of a four-lane highway connecting Barabanki and Bahraich, with an estimated cost of Rs 6,927 crore.
This project, expected to enhance road connectivity between India and Nepal, spans approx. 101 km and aims to reduce travel time between the two cities from several hours to just one hour. Designed to handle up to 38,000 vehicles daily, the upgraded highway will ease congestion and promote long-term growth. It is expected to benefit residents, traders, and transporters in Barabanki, Bahraich, and neighbouring areas, improving access to markets, healthcare, and economic centres.
325 hectares of land have already been earmarked for the project, which will also include service roads to boost local connectivity and safety. The proposal is awaiting financial clearance, expected by mid-2026, after which the project will swiftly move into tendering and construction stages.
