The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is set to begin a significant relining project on the 30-year-old water transmission line connecting Khadakwasla Dam to the Parvati water purification unit.
With an investment of Rs 57 crore, the project aims to reduce water loss, prevent corrosion, and enhance the efficiency of water transport. The work is expected to start next month and be completed in phases, including pipe relining and valve replacements, taking approx. three months. PMC officials assured residents that water supply disruptions will be avoided, with an alternative transmission line and Mutha canal water as backup.
A senior PMC official stated, "The repair plan has been under consideration for a long time, and the tendering process was recently initiated." While residents support the upgrade, many have raised concerns about ongoing distribution issues, such as leakages and low-pressure supply, urging the PMC to address these problems as well.
