On 13 May 2007, Kerala government
signed an agreement with the Dubai Technology & Media Free Zone Authority (TECOM)
to set up the Smart City Information Technology Park at Kochi.

Bayat, signed the pact for the Rs.1,500 crore smart city project in the presence
of Chief Minister, Mr.V S Achutanandan.
The Smart City will have an estimated
built up space of 8.8 million sq.ft, of which 80 per cent, will be for IT and
ITEs. It will also bring in new employment opportunities in knowledge-based
industries, as well as in the areas of administration, hospitality, consultancy,
construction, tourism, among others.
