Panvel railway station will get four additional platforms, which will be constructed as part of the Delhi-Mumbai Dedicated Freight Corridor project (DFC).
The Central Railway (CR) has given its approval for the construction of four additional platforms, and ordered the demolition of platform number three and four of Panvel station.
Before demolishing the platforms, six new platforms will be constructed to the west of Panvel station.
The four platforms will be used by the Central railway to extend the suburban services from Panvel to Roha and Panvel to Virar. Two more lines will be used for the CST-Panvel elevated corridor.
All the six platforms will either be constructed on the ground level or a double-decker station will be constructed.
The elevated platform will be used for the CST-Panvel High Speed Elevated Corridor. Two separate platforms will be constructed. Along with the additional suburban platforms, there will be two separate platforms for long-distance trains. Also, there will be a pit line constructed for maintenance of long-distance trains originating from the stations.
