Panvel, the last suburban railway station on the Harbour line, will be revamped to a hub in coming years. The project will involve converting the station into a terminus at an investment of Rs 154 crore.
Approval has also been granted for CSMT-Panvel elevated corridor. The work of the project is underway and nearly 50 percent of Phase-I is complete. The two-third cost of developing the station will be borne by the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO).
The terminus will be a three storey building with latest amenities for commuters. In Phase-I there will be new platforms to accommodate longer trains, foot-over-bridges (FOBs) and escalators. Apart from Habour line locals, more than 54 long-distance trains pass through the station everyday.
