Patna’s expansion of the piped natural gas (PNG) network is progressing as the city adds new distribution regulating stations (DRS) to its infrastructure.
Currently, DRS units at AIIMS, BIT, IGIMS, Gardanibagh, Bypass Sipara, and Fatuha support the network, each with a capacity to supply gas to 30,000–35,000 households. At present, around 28,000 homes in Patna are receiving PNG, benefiting more than 50,000 residents. Additionally, plans are underway to supply PNG to industrial units in Fatuha, with pipeline laying and inspections in progress. Authorities are awaiting the final licence to start regular supply, expected next month. This move aims to provide an economical alternative to LPG cylinders and diesel, which have been increasing operating costs for many businesses.
GAIL officials also mentioned that a six-inch pipeline is being laid from Naubatpur to Bihta, with a new DRS planned for industrial gas connections, further expanding the reach of PNG in the region.
