The Rs 2,000-crore Outer Ring Road encircling Nagpur, spanning over 64 km, is set to be fully operational by the first week of March. The road aims to ease heavy vehicle congestion within the city and provide faster connectivity to distant areas.
While the first phase covering 37 km is already complete, the remaining 27 km is expected to open early next month. The project is being executed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). Starting from Jamtha along Wardha Road, the ORR extends towards Samrudhi Expressway junction, Katol Road, Koradi, Fetri, and Nagpur-Jabalpur highway, ending at Nagpur bypass near Kapsi. The second phase begins from Fetri and completes the circle near Kapsi.
A truck from Hyderabad can already take the route toward Jabalpur using the first phase. Now, similar connectivity will be available for vehicles heading in other directions. A truck from Betul in Madhya Pradesh will be able to take the road toward Bhandara and Kolkata, while traffic from Amravati Road in the west will get direct connectivity to Bhandara Road in the east.
With growing traffic volumes, the NHAI was entrusted with constructing this road, complementing the inner ring road built earlier by the PWD.
