Pondy Oxides and Chemicals is nearing the completion of the first phase of capacity expansion at its lead smelter plant in Thervoykandigai, near Chennai, by March 2025.
The facility, the first fully automated lead smelter of its kind in India, will have a total production capacity of 72,000 tpa upon full completion. Phase-I will add 36,000 tpa to the plant’s output, with trial production slated to begin in the first week of March. Once this phase is operational, Pondy Oxides’ total lead production capacity will surge from 1,32,000 tpa to 2,04,000 tpa.
The company has already invested Rs 70 crore in capital expenditure during the first nine months of the current financial year. To support this growth, Pondy Oxides secured Rs 175 crore through a qualified institutional placement (QIP), aimed at meeting working capital needs and financing additional expansion.
This move not only reinforces Pondy Oxides’ commitment to innovation but also strengthens its position as a leader in sustainable recycling solutions.
